The biggest fear in the world right now is the fear of losing our memories or our capacity to think and becoming a burden to our family, but it wasn’t always like that. Ancient traditions would give all the wisdom of the tribe to the elder, not the young people with the young brains, so something’s happened over the last 30 years that’s causing our brains to break down at a faster rate. One possible factor is stress. When the brain is dysregulated, it doesn’t know how to relax, which can cause all sorts of issues.
So when the nervous system is under stress, we want to get relief. Unfortunately, people often seek out destructive ways to achieve that. Of course, there’s always ways like exercise, eating healthy, breathing techniques, etc., but many of us, including our kids, don’t often know or don’t engage with those options.
That’s why some companies are starting to develop easier ways for us to improve our lifestyle and decrease our stress levels in the most enjoyable ways possible. One of those is Brain Tap, which is designed to activate the brain’s neuroplasticity and can help people achieve brain fitness, overcome stress, lose weight, stop smoking, manage pain, and make a huge range of lifestyle improvements.
Two-thirds of Americans right now are not sleeping well. During level four sleep, the brain opens up a system called the Glial Lymphoma System, which is how the brain detoxes. So if you’re not reaching that fourth level of sleep every night, that flow stops, the detox process stops, and the brain starts to slowly shut down.
And when we talk about the brain, we’re really talking about the whole nervous system because 70% of the nervous system is between our ears. Our body can’t regulate it through our sympathetic (our fight or flight response), parasympathetic (our rest, digest, and recovery), and our neurohormonal (our biological system) responses.
Sleep is the incubator for the brain’s superpowers. If we do not get into the right sleep state, then we cannot engage the most powerful computer on earth. The human brain is capable of dispensing 30,000 different neurochemicals, so we need to engage that part of the brain to make sure it functions properly.
Every 72 hours, your nervous system tries to return to whatever it thinks is “neurologically normal” for you, so it’s important that your lifestyle changes are consistent. That’s why Dr. Porter recommends using Brain Tap frequently for short periods of time to reprogram it to a new neurological normal.
On average, people have about 80,000 thoughts a day, and, unfortunately, 80% of them are negative. It’s part of a survival mechanism left over from our biological upbringing. So if you’re going to change your genes, one of the best ways is to change the way you’re communicating with yourself.
Researchers are now using lasers, LEDs, and light therapy to learn about how the brain operates. Right now we have lasers that heal and light that can even change the frequencies of the brain. In 2003 when they mapped the human genome, but the reality is they only mapped 1% because they didn’t have the technology to do more until 2018. Later, they realized that gene expressions that were previously thought of as “junk” was only because they didn’t know how quickly these genes were changing.
90% of people who start the Brain Tap will notice an impact that first night. Their sleep will be deeper, and if they have a digital device that can measure sleep they might see the results there as well. Dr. Porter has also run tests on patients with concussions and coal miners with disrupted circadian rhythms, both showing vast improvement in sleep quality and brain function.
It also shows promise in helping patients with vertigo. The one group who shouldn’t use the light portion of Brain Tap, though, are light-sensitive epileptics because there’s no way to safely test this group.
