What Are the Most Effective Supplements for Mental Focus?
Different nutrients may support brain function, attention, or mental stamina. Evidence varies by ingredient, dose, and population, so supplements should not replace medical care or a healthy routine.
Citicoline (CDP-choline)
Citicoline, also called CDP-choline, is a source of choline involved in phospholipid metabolism and normal brain function. Five Journeys offers Neurologix, a non-stimulant formula containing Cognizin® citicoline along with other ingredients intended to support concentration and cognitive performance.
Research remains mixed. A 2026 systematic review found heterogeneous evidence for citicoline and phosphatidylserine, with methodological limitations in several studies.
L-theanine
L-theanine is an amino acid naturally found in tea and is commonly used in formulas intended to support calm attention. Five Journeys’ L-Theanine (200 mg) is listed under Mood Support and Sleep Support.
A 2026 systematic review and meta-analysis of 31 randomized trials involving 1,168 participants found a short-term improvement in choice reaction time after a 200 mg dose, although effects varied across outcomes.
Phosphatidylserine
Phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid found in cell membranes, including those in the brain. It has been studied for memory, attention, and cognitive performance, but evidence remains mixed and does not establish it as a reliable cognitive enhancer for everyone.
Omega-3
Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly DHA and EPA, support normal cell membranes and have important roles throughout the body. DHA is an important component of brain cell membranes, but supplementation does not automatically improve cognition in healthy adults.
Five Journeys’ OmegaPure provides EPA and DHA in a softgel format.
B-complex (B6, B9, B12)
B vitamins support energy metabolism and normal nervous system function. Vitamin B12 is also required for red blood cell formation and DNA synthesis.
Five Journeys’ Methyl B Complex contains B6, folate, B12, and other B vitamins.
